CRUELTY-FREE TIP - Report Animal Abuse In April each year, we observe Prevention of Animal Cruelty Month. Here are some ways you can help an animal who you suspect is being abused: --Report it if you witness an animal being abused through neglect (no food or water) or intentional cruelty (hitting, dragging, etc.), immediately report it to your local humane society or call your local police. --Write a letter to the editor of your local newspaper with information on how to prevent animal cruelty (such as teaching children how to properly treat an animal). --Support your local animal shelter or rescue organization with donations of money, food or supplies. --Volunteer your time at an animal shelter or rescue group or foster a shelter cat or dog in your home. Fostering helps socialize the animals so that they are more adoptable and less likely to be abused because of behavioral problems like scratching or barking. DID YOU KNOW? A 1986 study reported that 48% of convicted rapists and 30% of convicted child molesters admitted to abusing animals in their childhood or adolescence. "Fettered Kingdoms" by John Bryant "I dream of a world where Man is at peace, not only with himself, but also with all the other creatures of Earth. I long for a day when Man rejects the exploitation of other species for food, clothing, health, and entertainment--for such a day will mean that cruelty no longer exists."
