I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone
behind the scenes that make this all work. Rhonda is the best when it comes to
finding anything we need on the net. You ask for something and shes got a
link for it. Marcia writes excellent protest letters. List going a little slow?
We need someone to kidnap people and drag them in.
JOIN US AT ANIMAL RIGHTS
2003
WHAT WE ARE TRYING TO
ACCOMPLISH
We are a fairly new group. We are all appalled at cruelty to any living being,
let alone prejudice and other unfairness in the world. I have always had a soft
spot for the underdog and have always fought for injustices. When we heard about
the opossum that was shot full of arrows, burned and then bludgeoned days later,
AND that the guy got off with no punishment at all, we realized that this must
stop. How we plan on accomplishing this is to network on this list ways to
improve each state's animal cruelty statutes and see that they are enforced
fairly. We want to have a representative for each of our 50 states to stay on
top of their state's cruelty cases and the list will help you with them.
Each state's rep. will tear apart the existing animal cruelty statutes with
their state group (and/or the list) to find ways to improve it. We will then
create individual state petitions to get a Bill introduced. Once a Bill is
approved, and cruelty incidents occur, make sure they are publicized and
enforced.
Until this is accomplished and it WILL take a while, we will still attack each
and every cruelty case where nuisance wildlife are involved and fight in court
(either physically or via mail or email) and get the media involved.
It will be a great way to educate the public on how to coexist with so-called
nuisance wildlife and let the world know about our organization and the P.A.W.S.
Campaign.
As you browse through the archives you will see how we got formed and our ideas.
We welcome your ideas and help.
Here are a few of the projects that we are working
on -
So far we have wildlife note cards (packets of assorted b&w sketches
of nuisance wildlife - bear, deer, beaver, skunk, opossum, raccoon, prairie dog,
mountain lion, coyote, owl, etc.) that has our info on the back and a short
blurb on the benefits of each animal on the card. They sell for $10 each plus
S/H with 10 different cards in each. We can make them up with just one animal if
you like or even mix up the assortment of 10, since we have 14 different
pictures. Individual cards are $1.50 each. They include envelopes. (Rhonda and I
worked on the note cards and she donated them for our cause. Thank you so much,
Rhonda!)
Rhonda Collum, our GA Rep., and I had a booth at the GA skunk show early
last November. We got some petition signatures, but no donations or note card
sales. Guess it just wasn't the right crowd.
One way to raise funds might be to make up paw print brownies & cookies that
say P.A.W.S. TO HELP. I can get the copper paw print cookie cutters for $9 plus
S/H.
I was hoping that after all of us released last season's critters we could
knuckle down and get back into this project, but it just didn't happen. We
welcome fresh ideas.
Many of us on the list are also planning to attend the AR2003 in Washington, DC,
a huge 6-day animal rights conference where EVERY AR biggy will attend. I'm
going if at least three others commit to go, Marcia (RI), Jacqulyn, Rhonda (GA)
and her mother, Rose (FL), said they might be attending. Did I forget anyone?
We'll share 4 to a room and maybe get adjoining rooms or a suite if it's more
cost effective.
I am definitely going to the Los Angeles AR2003!!! This is the first year being
held here. I can drive each day and save on the hotel bill. If anyone wants to
attend, you can stay at my house no charge.
By then we hope to have t-shirts & buttons to sell.
We've already thrown together business cards, flyer, education material,
newsletter, mission statement, press release format, etc. I think it would be a
good idea for each of you to have a master copy to print up your own material.
Sorry I'm late on getting these to you. I'm working on mailing them out this
week.
If someone would like to take what I've done so far and make it look much more
professional, PLEASE DO.
I've also designed the T-Shirt. I can't afford to make an order without the
payments made first. I think we have almost enough people on the list to make
their orders to place a minimum order. They are $15 each plus $3.95 S/H. With
each t-shirt paid, it will pay for another one to raise funds for PRW's PAWS
Campaign at full profit.
I'm ordering five myself - a couple for me and a few to sell to raise funds. How
about the rest of you?
MEETINGS
We do need to start having meetings again soon. Our VP, Laura Harper-Villareal
in IL (also our IL Rep.) had surgery and is recuperating. She started making our
www.ProtectRWildlife.org web site, but we need someone to complete it.
FILES
Laura Burdett is our Secretary and TX Rep. Go to the FILES section on the
list to read more about our members and please provide your info so I can add it
(our bios).
Please let me know your individual web sites to add it to our Reference Files. I
would also like to remind everyone to take a look at the various pages on the
site. The information pages are there for everyone. Please feel free to contact
us if you see an error, or have information to add.
The calendar has upcoming events. Do we have any new people interested in
joining us for the AR2003 in Washington, DC or Los Angeles? I'm trying to be at
both! I just scraped up enough frequent flyer miles to get a free flight to go
to DC!
I would like to once again thank all my rehab friends for your never-ending
support. You have all come through like troopers to try to make this a success.
Now lets go out there and kidnap some more people!!! We need more state reps.
or at least temporary ones until we get someone with more time and enthusiasm.
STATE REPS.
We currently only have 14 State Reps. - CA, FL, GA, IA, IL, IN, ME, NY,
OK, RI, SC, TN, TX, WA), although it only appears that we have 7 active state
reps. Some of you are referring new people to the list to get involved. We
really appreciate your efforts.
I have no idea what state Jill (erniecoonsmom) is living. Jill, I've been trying
to reach you.
Rose Jones has a new email address now - Rjsmom741@aol.com.
Rhonda Collum also has a new email address - coonmom@msn.com. No more web tv for
Rose and Rhonda! Congratulations.
I'm not sure if we have state reps. any
more for IA, IL, and IN (Terese Evans, Laura Harper-Villarreal, and Teresa
Gribbons). Laura, I'm desperately trying to reach you. Are you ok?
We now have Jen Lewis in Maine, and Beth Mowder in SC. We lost Felice Clark in MI, and Kellie
Ball-Ross in TX.
Oh well.......15 steps forward and 10 steps backwards.......
